WTAG was established under the auspice of Tasmanian Regional Arts (TRA is an Australian Federal Government initiative) on 21st July 2010. West Tamar Arts Group (WTAG) was established prior to the Regional Arts National Conference, Junction 2010 (held in Launceston). TRA recognised and supported the dynamics of our region through the inaugural Entwine art exhibition in partnership with the Tamar Valley Wine group and the West Tamar Council. This event was part of the Junction 2010 Arts Festival which ran concurrently with the Junction 2010 Arts Conference..
Artentwine started in 2008 as an exhibition of Sculpture in two Tamar Riverfront gardens, featuring works by University of Tasmania Lecturers and Students. This successful first year was a catalyst for the formation of the West Tamar Arts Group (WTAG).
In 2010 the event evolved, in partnership with local family-owned vineyards, into the Artentwine Sculpture Biennial. The success of the 2014 Artentwine experience was accomplished with the significant support of the West Tamar Council, Bell Bay Aluminium and the Wineries. By 2014 the support from West Tamar Council had increased to incorporate a $10,000 Acquisitive prize.
The 2016 Artentwine Sculpture Biennial will again be supported by our Major Sponsors The West Tamar Council and Bell Bay Aluminium. Over the next six years the Artentwine Sculpture Biennial & Symposium will provide increased benefits to the community, tourism, economical viability, together with recognition of the contribution of the West Tamar Council and other major sponsors.
To create a partnership between artists and the community to provide artistic experiences and professional development opportunities for all.
- We work in partnership with local businesses, schools and local, state and federal governments.
- We distribute information regarding the arts to members, friends, media and academics through our e newsletter, websites and other social and printed media.
- We educate and provide active artistic experiences for school children and youth in the community
- We encourage and develop the artistic potential for our local community by conducting workshops and exhibitions.
- We curate Gallery Windsor and Moores Hill Winery tasting room.
We collaborate with local schools, NRM North, Landcare, Parks and Wildlife to encourage an understanding of our environment. 2016 will see us involved with the Reflective Posts ( schools program) and Waterlines ( community project) which compliments Artentwine.
Artentwine Sculpture Biennial sees WTAG working with 5 wineries and this year includes the Artentwine Symposium – Form and Place.
Fundraising events are part of our community committment, ie: Designer Shoes meets Designer Wines and Winter Wine and Chocolate.
WTAG has recently become an incorporated body as part of our natural growth. This brings with it social and community responsibilities including a duty of care to our members, our committee and our wider community. Our policies and procedures now reflect this.
If you require assistance in completing the new membership form please feel free to contact one of the committee members for advice via our email address.
